Heidi Edwards and her two children, Tegan aged 5 and Alex 3, were involved in a terrible accident on Old Northern Road Forest Glen early on Thursday, 20th May 2010.
Heidi was driving when a white-ant ridden tree fell across the car, trapping her inside but leaving her children unharmed. It was the swift action taken by people first on the scene that initially saved Heidi’s life. This included an off duty paramedic with the knowledge of how to stabilise and avoid further injury to Heidi, neighbours and those who witnessed the accident or arrived soon after, having the right tools to cut and remove the roof of the vehicle prior to the helicopter arriving and taking her straight to Royal North Shore Hospital. Heidi then underwent a lengthy operation in order to save her life.
Heidi’s husband Simon Edwards has been a well-known identity within the district for many years. He is community minded and involved in hundreds of families’ lives as their trusted friend through his stalwart efforts as a Venturer leader and Rural Fire Service Volunteer. He is a friend to all he meets. Simon went through Cubs, Scouts and Venturers where he learnt many of the skills he is now using in his life today, as he cares not only for his wife, but his two young children.
It is the vision and hope of the Heidi Edwards Family Fund Committee to enable Heidi, Simon, Tegan and Alex to live their life's dreams as comfortably as they can.
